“That’s beautiful, laa ilaaha illAllah!” He is so clever, masha’Allah!”
What do you say when you see a smart child, a nice house, or a beautiful car? The answer should be none of above; rather you should pray for blessings!
The evil eye comes from people who feel jealous (hasad), but the scholars have explained that it can also come from someone who is not jealous but who simply likes something. This opens the door to harm— to yourself, to your wealth, or to a loved one.
This also means that it’s okay to like something someone else has and even to want it for yourself as long as you don’t wish for that thing to be taken away from that person— and as long as you pray for blessings for them!
This hadith was reported from Anas ibn Maalik: Whoever sees something that he likes, and says, ‘Ma sha Allaah laa quwwata illa Billaah’, the evil eye will not affect him is classified as da’eef jiddan (very weak). Allah says: It was better for you to say, when you entered your garden: Mashaa’Allaah laa hawla wa laa quwwatta illaa billaah. [Quran, 18:39]
This ayah is not related to jealousy, but rather Allah destroyed the man’s garden because of his disbelief and transgression.

Asalamu Alaikum Br. In Islam,
I have a nice car Alhamdulillah, and people often look at it with admiration and sometimes say I wish I have this type of car. I believe they do not intend bad for me. What should I do or say to close the evil eye on my car. From my experience, Alhamdulillah, the car was involved in a very expensive accident (Subhanallah) after I gave lift to someone who constantly had shown admiration of the car, and another expensive repairs of the engine after similar statements from another person (Subhanallah). I want to belief there is evil eye cast on my car (Aozubillah). What is the correct thing to do or say to close the evil eyes.
