Assalamualaikum Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Some people are saying that the spread of a deadly strain of coronavirus in China is a divine punishment for the atrocities committed against Uighur Muslims. We humans cannot make such a sweeping statement as we do not know all the facts and we are not fully aware of the wisdom of Allah! Those affected with Sinophobia (hostility against people of Chinese descent or culture) have gone so far to say that this adversity can be celebrated. This is nothing but fanaticism which paints Islam in a negative light and takes non-Muslims further away from Islam.

How should we react to the situation? Alhamdulillah! Allah has taught us how to deal with this kind of situation through his divine book and his Messenger (ﷺ). Many hundred years before the advancement of modern sciences, Islam talks about importance of cleanliness, personal hygiene, consuming Halal food, quarantine etc which are quintessential to prevention and spread of endemic diseases. Only when we ponder upon these, we can truly understand that Allah has perfected his religion! SubhanAllah! Only if we Muslims become responsible and showcase these teachings of Islam with wisdom, many people will be automatically attracted towards Islam.

Share the benefits of Halal food

Let us share the scientific benefits of eating Halal food because treating our bodies with wholesome foods free of harmful ingredients — germs, toxins, pollutants, filth, etc. — is not only desired by Muslims but whole of humanity. It’s a common need, a common desire and a common right, and that means everyone can benefit from consuming halal foods and avoiding what is not.

Let us also share the scientific benefits of halal way of slaughtering the animal. The halal way preserves the link between heart and brain of the animal, allowing the animal to breathe out naturally. With this method, the heart keeps pumping until all the blood from the body is drained out and only meat is left, without any contamination, leaving the meat pure and Halal. On the flip side of Halal way i.e Haram way, the blood does not drain out of the animal’s body and contaminates the meat. This clotted blood ruins the freshness of the meat and can become the cause for multiple illnesses when the humans eat it.

Do not move into or out of a place where the virus has been reported

If there is an outbreak of epidemic disease, the Prophet (ﷺ) advised us not to visit that place or leave that place. If you leave the place, you may be a potential carrier of the virus and may risk infecting others. Be patient and trust in the will of Allah and he will Inshallah grant him a reward similar to that of a martyr.

Narrated Saud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague breaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place.”

Here are some important and powerful Surah and Dua’s to stay protected from coronavirus or in fact any other harm:

Mu’wadaitain (Surah Al-Falaq and An-Naas)

Surah Al-Falaq and Surah A-Naas (two last ‘Qul’ surahs) are also referred to as “Mu’wadaitain”, which is an Arabic word that refers to the last two surahs of the Qur’aan. Many hadith of Prophet (ﷺ) clearly tell us that these two surahs were revealed to seek protection from various types of evils.

DUA1

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لاَ يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration: Bismillāh, alladhi lā yaḍurru ma`a ismihi shai’un fil-arḍi wa lā fis-samā’, wa huwas-Samī`ul `Alīm)’

Translation: “In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All-Knowing. (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3388).”

DUA2

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ وَالْجُنُونِ وَالْجُذَامِ وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الأَسْقَامِ

Transliteraion: Allahumma inni aoudubika minal barasi waljunooni waljuzaami wa min saee alasqaam

Translation: “O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from leprosy, insanity, elephantiasis, and evil diseases.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 1554).

DUA3

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي مِمَّا ابْتَلاَكَ بِهِ وَفَضَّلَنِي عَلَى كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ تَفْضِيلاً

Transliteration: Al-ḥamdulillāhi alladhī `āfānī mimmabtalāka bihī wa faḍḍalanī `alā kathīrin mimman khalaqa tafḍīla

Translation: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever sees an afflicted person then says: ‘All praise is due to Allah who saved me from that which He has afflicted you with, and blessed me greatly over many of those whom He has created.’ he shall not be struck by that affliction.” (Jami`at-Tirmidhi 3432)

DUA4

اَللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

Transliteraion: allahumma aafini fi badani allahumma aafini fi samee allahumma aafini fi basari laailaha illa anth

Translation:’O Allah, make me healthy in my body. O Allah, make me healthy in my hearing. O Allah, make me healthy in my sight. There is no god but You.’ (Sunan Abi Dawud 5090)

DUA5

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni aaudubika min zawali niamatika watahawwili aafiyatika wa fujaa’ti niqmatika wa jamee saqatika

Translation:” O Allah, I seek refuge in you from the withdrawal of yout blessing and the change of your protection (from me) and from your sudden wrath, and from every displeasure of yours.”

(Sahih Muslim 2739)

Say Alhamdulillah for a wonderful Immune System

We must not forget that all viruses are also a creation of Allah. And Subhanallah, they have some unique characteristics. They are like uninvited, persevering and tenacious guests in the host cell, using a range of tricks to profusely replicate and also prevent their eviction. Many a time, there is no need to worry a lot. Because Alhamdulillah! Allah has gifted us a wonderful immune system which can fight off most of the viruses naturally. And most of the times, our body gets rid of infection without the need for medical treatment! Only in some cases, when the virus outruns the immune system does it start to create problems.
