418Studying the Quran is one of the most important things you’ll ever do, right? You know it and I know it, but sometimes the people in your life just don’t get it.

They interrupt your study time, distract you, and ask you to do things for them that they’re perfectly capable of doing themselves. Before you know it, you’ve gone one day, two days, even a week without studying the Quran, and at that point you not only lose your momentum, you start to forget what you’ve already learned.

Don’t let this happen! As hard as it may be, you need to find a way to protect your study time. If they don’t know already, teach your friends and family members that they’re wasting their time if what they’re asking you is not important enough to miss the Quran for. You’ll need to do this gently, with respect, and you’ll need to be patient and persistent. And you’ll need to ask Allah (swt) for help.

You also need to say “no” to yourself if you’ve voluntarily taken on too much work or leisure activities. Take a good look at what you do each day and pinpoint what you can do without.

May Allah (swt) richly bless your efforts to learn and spread the message of the Quran.

Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied. [from Al-Quran, 3:79]
