Have you experienced times when you just can’t concentrate on your prayers, no matter how much you try to focus? In a previous article I mentioned ways of combatting distractions in salah. Today I will give you a Ramadhan gift, a set of worksheets you can use to make your Ramadhan prayers better quality and not just quantity.

Memorize the duas that are new to you. They are short and you can perhaps memorize one every day. The wisdom behind memorizing different duas and alternating between them during salah is that you won’t get automatized and fall into a rut during salah, as happens when you keep repeating one dua day after day.
Fill up the following before starting your prayer (leave the duas that are new to you until you have memorized them). Keep varying the options as much as possible.

O Allah , wash away my sins with ice and water and frost. | وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّموَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفاً وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، إِنَّ صَلَاتِي، وَنُسُكِي، وَمَحْيَايَ، وَمَمَاتِي للهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ.I have turned my face sincerely towards He who has brought forth the heavens and the Earth and I am not of those who associate (others with Allah). Indeed my prayer, my sacrifice, my life and my death are for Allah, Lord of the worlds, no partner has He, with this I am commanded and I am of the Muslims. | ||

| Dua before salam | اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْمَأْثَمِ وَالْمَغْرَمِO Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the False Messiah, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sin and from debt. | اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْماً كَثِيراً، وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُO Allah, I have greatly wronged myself and no one forgives sins but You. So, grant me forgiveness and have mercy on me. Surely, you are Forgiving, Merciful. | اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنَّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ، وَشُكْرِكَ، وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَO Allah, help me to remember You, to give You thanks, and to perform Your worship in the best manner. | ||

There is a mistake in the worksheet. The dua “O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well.” is to be recited after prayer, according to the following hadith:
Mu’adh b. Jabal reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) caught his hand and said:
By Allah, I love you, Mu’adh. I give some instruction to you. Never leave to recite this supplication after every (prescribed) prayer: “O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well.”
Mu’adh willed this supplication to the narrator al-Sunabihi and al-Sunabihi to ‘Abu Abd al-Rahman.
