Assalamualaikum

Eid Mubarak from UQA team.  May Allah accept all our good deeds that we did in Ramadan.

Alhamdulillah! We thank Allah who gave us another opportunity this year. We perfomed our prayers and fasting and charity but was that enough? Definitely not! Let the highs of the spiritual journey that one goes through during Ramadan have a lasting effect in our lives post Ramadan.

Retrospect for a while and recognize the good deeds that you did in Ramadan. It can be offering daily prayers in congregation in Masjid or spending the time reciting, understanding and pondering the Qur’an, giving charity or standing in prayers! Post Ramadan, if we continue to be consistent in our daily prayers and do some of fasting and charity with the same sincerity and Taq’wa, then it is the sign of success and acceptance of our Ramadan deeds.

Ramadan was just a stop for recharge and a short intensive course for learning. Let the good deeds be not restricted to the month of Ramadan. Post Ramadan, here are some practical advices that will help you

Be Consistent: Be a Rabbani (belonging to Allah always)  and not Ramadani (worshipping Allah only in Ramadan). Allah says in the Qur’an:“O you who believe! obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and do not make your deeds of no effect”(47:33).  The above verse is great reminder to all to not go back to sins as they wash out our good deeds just as good deeds wash out the bad ones.

Voluntary Fasts: Though the obligatory fasts end with Ramadan, it is recommended for every Muslim to fast for six days of Shawwaal (Islamic month after Ramadan). The great virtue and immense rewards for fasting in Shawwaal have been recorded in many narrations:

Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah)

It was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah with the wording: “Fasting for the month of Ramadaan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for six days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year.”

Scholars say that fasting in Shawaal makes up for any shortcomings in person’s obligatory fasts. The Prophet used to also fast on Mondays and Thursdays.

Pray in Congregation
In Ramadan, we have seen beautiful pictures of people praying in congregation in jam packed mosques. Suddenly, after Ramadan, we see a sharp decrease in the number of people in Masjid. Let us be reminded that praying in Masjid in congregation is obligatory for men.  Allah and His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)  praised such people.

Ponder the Holy Qur’an
Let us not restrict the recitation of Holy Qur’an to only the month of Ramadan. We have to take atleast a few minutes daily out of our schedule to recite, understand and ponder over the verses of Qur’an.

UQA has developed scientific courses to understand Quran directly from Arabic in  optimised time. To know more, click here.

Sadaqa
Most of us pay our obligatory Zakat during the month of Ramadan. But this should not stop us from spending in the path of Allah for the rest of the year. As good deeds are always rewarded, we should make it a habit to give Sadaqa (voluntary charity)

The chance to worship Allah in Ramadan was a blessing. Let us thank Allah by continuing to obey Allah after Ramadan too. May Allah help us to make better Muslim after this Ramadan. Aameen Ya Rab!
