making peace2

by Vanessa M.

And do not make [your oath by] Allah an excuse against being righteous and fearing Allah and making peace among people. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing. [Quran, 2:224]

Fear and peace don’t seem to have much in common. How can you be fearful when your heart and mind are at peace? But through piety we can learn to be at peace in all struggles and situations, and Allah (swt) is the Most Giving and the Provider. He gives us sustenance through more ways than we could ever imagine. We thank Allah (swt) for the air that fills us, the water that brings life, blessings, and talents unique to every one of us, subhan Allah.

But how often do we thank Allah (swt) for fear, for struggle, and strife? Do we remember Allah’s (swt) mercy when afflicted with the most terrible situation, the worst day, the hardest and most difficult thing we’ve ever faced? Could we still thank Allah (swt) on that day, and after that day?

On the day breath has been restored and the dark clouds drift away and the sun stretches and smiles with warmth, when the rigid coldness of anger or sadness finally melts, does alhamdulillah cross your mind, part your lips, and leap from the very depths of your heart?

The Pious, Al-Muttaqun

On a quest to learn about piety, I learned that it’s through being pious that we can discover peace. In shaa Allah, being pious will bring us closer to His promise of the indescribably beautiful  paradise just above the stars, the most peaceful of resting places that we’ll never be asked to leave. Masha Allah!

But (the ones) who are pious to their Lord will have Gardens from beneath which Rivers run, eternally (abiding) therein, a hospitality from the Providence of Allah. And whatever is in the Providence of Allah is the most charitable for the benign. [Quran 3:198]

The Quran gives us life lessons that teach us to be pious— fearful of Allah (swt) so that we may be guided, ask for forgiveness, and seek His protection.

The Guide, Al-Hadi

And this [Qur’an] is a Book We have revealed [which is] blessed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy. [Quran 6:155]

How thankful we should be that Allah (swt) has not left us blind to figure out this rather complicated life on our own, alhamdulillah; He has given us the Quran so that we may contemplate, understand, and obey His words— the most divine instructions that assist us in living life with meaning and purpose, avoiding evil and being uninfluenced by the deceit of others so that we can be steadfast.

O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true. [Quran, 9:119]

The All Forgiving,  Al-Ghafur

Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. [Quran 2:268]

Allah (swt) told the son of Adam that no matter if his sins reaches as high as the clouds, if he asked forgiveness indeed Allah is the most forgiving. Allah (swt) has made this promise to us all, to forgive us for our past, present, and future as long as we are fearful of His punishment, plead for His mercy, and be of those who do good.

And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful. [Quran 4:110]

The Protector, Al-Muhaimin

The ones who responded to Allah and the Messenger even after the blow had afflicted them, to the ones of them who did fair (deeds) and were pious will be a magnificent reward. [3:172]

Any army big or small can not harm us unless it be by the will of Allah (swt). So why is it that we would fear any man, or anything on this earth when He is the one who has control over all things? Fearing Allah (swt) allows us to let go of the heavy burden of fear of man, loss of wealth, or loss of this dunya. Allah (swt) protects us from the whisperings of Shaytan, the corruption of man, and from the ignorance inside of ourselves. Fear Allah (swt) and find peace!

Indeed, those who fear Allah – when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight. [Quran 7:201]

Through prayer we can be close to Allah (swt) and remember, and if we turn to prayer at times when we have sinned or feel uncertainty than Allah (swt) will provide for us the patience to cope, the strength to resist, and hope through His mercy, in shaa Allah.

The One who knows each and every intricate detail of something as small as our thoughts, to the magnificence and mystery of the universe, has blessed us with this message alhamdulillah!  Allah (swt) has planted within all of us a seed of righteousness that sprouts into good character, grows in courage and piety, and then blossoms into peace. Let us contemplate for a moment, and be forever grateful.

The Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian) in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim, and join me with the righteous. [Quran 12:101]  Ameen.

Praying you will benefit.
