Oh beloved! For you are to leave us soon. Oh, I wish, at least this year I could stay up to my commitment and make the most of your sacred days. Sadly, I couldn’t hit the target again.

Yes! Most of us commit that this year we will make the most of Ramadan and make it better than the last year. But due to our hectic lifestyles and unavoidable schedules we often fail to live up to our commitment, which leaves us regretful for the whole next year.

Nevertheless, Alhamdulillah! Our Lord is immensely merciful and highly compassionate, for He has given us number of opportunities in the last Ashrah as well. Subhan Allah!

Allah says “Indeed, we sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn’’ (97:1-5)

Alhamdulillah! What a golden opportunity, isn’t it?

Let’s see how can we make the most of these remaining divine days of Ramadan. Here is a practical to do list:

  1. Dua: Recite this special dua: اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He () replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, you are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).”   Book 9, Hadith 205 [At-Tirmidhi]
  1. Ask for forgiveness:

Narrated by Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet () said, “Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith 1901, Book 30, Hadith 11.
  1. Charity:

Spend money in the way of Allah each day for the rest of the 10 days, without fail. Also, try and associate at least two more people with this activity so that your rewards are multiplied, Insha’Allah
  1. Read and understand Qur’an:

  1. Tafseer:

  1. I’tikaaf:

Narrated by ‘Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her)The Prophet () used to practice I’tikaaf in the last ten days of Ramadan till he died and then his wives used to practice Itikaf after him.” (Sahih Buqari Volume 3, Book 33, Number 243).
  1. Resolution:

Make a resolution between you and Allah to leave at least one bad habit or a sin that may push you away from Allah. Instead, replace it with a good habit which you find easy, practical and which will drive you closer to Allah, Insha Allah.
  1.  Say NO to socializing:

Not at least this time. When someone invites you, say politely, I have engaged myself with the Lord of these powerful nights so, please excuse me.

May Allah help us to find Layla tul Qadr and come out of this Ramadan pure, clean and forgiven. Aameen.
