The following is a list of special times, states, and places for acceptance of dua:

    1. During the night of al-Qadr
    2. The last part of the night
    3. Following the prescribed prayers
    4. The time between adhan and iqamah
    5. An (unspecified) hour of every night. (Because the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, ‘During the night there is a time when the Muslim does not ask for the good of this world and the Hereafter but it will be given to him, and that happens every night.’ Narrated by Muslim, 757.)
    6. At the time of the call to the prescribed prayers

During rainfallDuring the forward march of the army ranks fighting for the sake of AllahAt an (unspecified) hour on the day of Friday. (Most probably it is the last hour from the hours of asr on the day of Jumuah, or perhaps it is the hour between the Khutbah and the Jumuah salah.)

  1. When drinking Zamzam water with sincere intention
  2. In sujood
  3. If one wakes up from sleep at night and says the following dua:

Allah’s Messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: ‘Whomever wakes up at night and says, None has the right to be worshipped but Allah (SWT) He is the only one who has no partners. His is the kingdom and all the praises are for Allah (SWT) All the glories are for Allah (SWT) And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) is the most Great and there is neither might nor power except with Allah (SWT)

and then says,

Allahumma ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me) or invokes Allah [with any dua],

he will be responded to and if he makes ablution and performs Salat, his Salat will be accepted.’ [Sahih al-Bukhari]

  1. If one slept in a state of wudu, then woke up from the night‘s sleep and made dua
  2. With the dua Yunus:

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أنْـت سُـبْحانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْـتُ مِنَ الظّـالِميـن

None has the right to be worshipped except You. How perfect You are, verily I was among the wrong-doers.

  1. Dua of people after someone dies
  2. After praising Allah and sending salat upon the Prophet in the last tashahhud
  3. With the dua with Allah’s greatest Name [see Ibn Majah 3856]
  4. Dua of a Muslim for his Muslim brother in his absence
  5. Dua on the day of Arafah at Arafah
  6. In the month of Ramadan
  7. In gatherings of Muslims where Allah is remembered. (Majlis adh-Dhikr)
  8. The following dua during calamity: إِنّا للهِ وَإِنَا إِلَـيْهِ راجِعـون ، اللهُـمِّ اْجُـرْني في مُصـيبَتي، وَاخْلُـفْ لي خَيْـراً مِنْـها

To Allah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allah, recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

  1. in the state when one’s heart is dedicated to Allah, and in the state of strong ikhlas.
  2. Dua of the oppressed against the oppressor
  3. Dua of the father for or against his son.
  4. Dua of the traveler
  5. The fasting person until he breaks his fast
  6. While breaking fast
  7. Dua of the distressed
  8. Dua of a just ruler
  9. Righteous son– for his parents
  10. After wudu if he says the narrated dua: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever performs Wudu’ and does it well, then says: “Ashhadu an la ilaha ill-Allah was ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh (I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger),” eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever one he wishes. [an-Nasai 148]
  11. After stoning the small Jamrah
  12. After stoning the medium Jamrah
  13. Inside Ka’bah, and the Hijr is part of the Ka’bah
  14. On top of As-Safa
  15. On top of al-Marwa
  16. in the Mash’ar al-Haram (Muzdalifah)

The believer makes dua to his Lord at all times wherever he is. Allah Azza wa Jall said:

وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ۖ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لِي وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. [2:186]

But these times, states and places have been specified for increased diligence.
