sadaqah jariyah

Three Lasting Good Deeds

This year on the day of Eid I felt strange, as if there were a black hole in front of me.  It was sadness; Ramadhan was gone, but there was also something else, and I wonder if you recognize this as well?  I felt a fear that I would lose my willpower to do as many good deeds as possible and that my emaan and closeness to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala would decrease quickly in the coming days, as if I were scared I wouldn’t work hard anymore.

So here is my food for thought for you: the fasting and the giving charity in the weeks of Ramadhan has come to an end, but does that mean we stop our work for Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala? And how can you be a productive worker for Allah all year ’round?

The answer is that as a believer you should look at the most lucrative deals for you to gain reward. The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam mentioned three good deeds that last: If a human dies, then his good deeds stop except for three: a sadaqah jariyah, a beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him. [ Saheeh Muslim]

Let’s find out how you can bring all these three together right now, insha’Allah!
Allah, tells us the ultimate reward is for the “righteous workers” in this week’s central ayah: And they will say: “All the praises and thanks be to Allah Who has fulfilled His promise to us and has made us inherit the land. We can dwell in Paradise where we will; how excellent a reward for the workers!” [Quran, 39:74]

Three Lasting Good Deeds: How You Can Leave a Legacy
The minute will come when the Angel of Death will visit you. He will take your soul and you are not able to do any deeds anymore. Not one. So you will not receive any more rewards for your actions, your chance to do good has passed you by and now you have to wait in the grave to see what will happen next.  But if you were a smart believer you prepared for this moment. Let’s find out how you can leave a legacy.

1.      A worker of Allah gives sadaqah jariyah.

Sadaqah jariyah is any good deed done by you from which people continue to benefit despite your demise. Your reward will not stop being paid out until people or even animals stop benefiting!

2.      A worker of Allah shares knowledge.

“Knowledge which is beneficial” means knowledge conveyed either verbally (like in lessons), written (like in books, leaflets etc) or any other means through which people become better Muslims. As long as people benefit from this knowledge, the teacher will receive reward for it.

3.      A worker of Allah invests in children.

Training of children and nurturing emaan in them so that after your death they continue to pray for you is an amazing source of ongoing reward. Imagine you teach a child to say bismillah and they and their offspring until The Day of Judgement says it each day!

Do You Want to be of the Best?

Now I thought of a way to combine those three categories of good deeds and do something which I pray will benefit me in a time when no other deeds benefit me and because I wish this for you as well, I wanted to share them with you.  How can you leave a legacy of sadaqah jariyah, beneficial knowledge and righteous children? Take a moment to think. The answer is: the Quran.

How Can You Fulfill the Hadith of the Prophet?

Imagine if you could teach someone to understand the Quran and they act upon their knowledge for the rest of their lives, teaching it to their offspring as well and you will gain reward for every good deed they perform after understanding the Quran? Imagine if you could teach a child or a revert brother or sister to read the Quran and you get rewarded for each letter they read the rest of their lives? Imagines mountains of good deeds appearing in front of you on Yawm al Qiyamah. It is time for action. Help us to teach the Quran to the ummah.

Time for Action

This is the time to take action. An ‘aamil (worker) is not passive. To work your way into Jannah, you need to be active and think how you can change the world.

This is why I want to tell you about the vision of the Understand Quran Academy because it melted my heart when I first heard it and it was a blessing from Allah I have the chance to be part of it. The vision is  Changing the Nation through the Quran. Making the Quran your Daily Companion; reading, understanding, implementing the Quran in your daily life and sharing even one ayah a day.

No doubt as Muslims, you and I believe that the Quran is the ultimate source of guidance for us. Unfortunately, nine out of ten Muslims don’t understand the Quran. A big part of our ummah can’t even read it, since the Quran is in Arabic. Most of us don’t have years to understand the Quran as scholars. Besides, most Muslims can’t afford high priced courses, since they live in developing countries.

As you can see, we as an ummah face a huge challenge: the majority of Muslims not understanding the Quran. If there’s a solution, it must be a simple, easy, and quick one. By the way, it should be affordable, too.

It’s a very unusual challenge that needs a very unusual solution. Alhamdulillah, after many years of research by our scholars at our academy, we came up with a revolutionary way of teaching the Quran.

May Allah ‘azza wajal make us of ‘al aamileen and give us the tawfeeq of leaving a legacy of the three lasting good deeds, ameen!

The Prophet Muhammad salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it (to others). [Saheeh Al-Bukhari]
