Say “Bismillah” and Go to Sleep!

278-EDUCATION

The Lazy Road to Better Learning

A good night’s sleep followed by a nutritious breakfast—both preceded by bismillah— will set you up for successful studies.

Why?

Sleep aids learning in two ways: 1). by ensuring good health and a good mood, and 2). by helping the brain to consolidate (order and strengthen) the memories it accumulated during the day (that includes your Arabic verbs!).

How?

How can you ensure you get enough sleep? Don’t consume more than four caffeinated beverages per day, don’t snack before bedtime, and make sure you budget an average of seven hours (some need a little more, some a little less) out of every twenty-four for sleep. And always say bismillah before you nod off! This sleep is for Allah (swt); it can help you to learn, work, pray, draw nearer to Him, and enjoy the bounty He’s given you.

Naps

In the winter months you can usually get all these hours at night, but as the days get longer you may need to take naps in order to pray at the correct times. You might, for example, sleep five hours between Al-Isha and Al-Fajr, and then take a two hour nap between Al-Zuhr and Al-Asr. If your schedule can’t accommodate a long nap, try to work in several fifteen-minute naps whenever you can.

May Allah (swt) richly bless your efforts to learn and spread the message of the Quran.
Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied. [from Al-Quran, 3:79]

Assalamualaikum. The picture is cute mashaAllah but I think it should be changed since some people dont know we should not lye down on our stomach.
Ya’eesh ibn Tihfah al-Ghifaari reported that his father said:
(The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saw me lying on my stomach. He prodded me with his foot and said, ‘Do not lie in this manner, for it is a way of lying that Allaah hates.’”
According to another report, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prodded him with his foot and woke him up, and said, “Do not lie like this, for this is how the people of Hell lie.”
