Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

Another Ramadan is around the corner, I hope and pray that each of us are allowed by Allah azza wa jall to live to see it and get the maximum benefit out of the blessed month. Here is my Ramadan gift to you, a printable 30-day chart containing small bits of advice and memorization tasks which you can accomplish quite easily in sha Allah, but whose blessing will be vast especially in this month of blessings. Hope you benefit from it.

Days 1 to 10 – Purification from blameworthy character:

Listed below are some unwanted characteristics which we nonetheless get afflicted with from time to time, and sometimes don’t even realize that we’ve got the problem. With each characteristic I have linked an ayah or a hadith. Let us be extra conscious of these evils in this month when it’s easier, as the shaytan is locked up. Try to memorize them in order to earn rewards and remember the lessons for life in sha Allah.

Day # Topic of the day General reminder Quran / Hadith to memorize
1

Gluttony and greed

Ramadan is supposed to teach us abstinence; instead we end up gaining weight. Let’s keep our appetite in check starting day There is no vessel which the son of Adam can fill more evil than his stomach, for it is sufficient for him to take a few mouthfuls in order to straighten his back, but if he must, then fill one-third with food, one-third with drink, and one-third with breath.” [Sunan Ibn Majah 3349]
2

Evil speech

Gossiping and backbiting is hard to avoid whenever families and friends meet up. Let’s try extra hard to keep our tongues in check. Whoever Allah protects from the evil between his jaws and the evil between his legs will enter Paradise. [Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2409]
3

Promiscuity

Zina is just the extreme. People go there in gradual steps. Let’s cut the road towards evil from the start. Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. [2:268]
4

Lying

Lies can be big or small. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re lying, it becomes so integrated in our lives. Let us try to catch those invisible lies. Verily, a man tells the truth until he is recorded as truthful, and a man tells lies until he is recorded as a liar. [Sahih Muslim 2606]
5

Arguing

Stop arguing, even if you’re right. There’s no point. If you keep on debating, you’ll never win over the other person, they’ll just keep getting defensive. Verily, the most hated man to Allah is the one who is harsh in argument.”[Sahih Muslim 2668]
6

Excessive joking

Joking is in fact a sunnah, because the Prophet himself did it. But often we get carried away with it and go beyond limits. I guarantee a house on the outskirts of Paradise for one who abandons arguments even if he is right, and a house in the middle of Paradise for one who abandons lies even when joking, and a house in the highest part of Paradise for one who makes his character excellent. [Sunan Abu Dawud 4800]
7

Arrogance

Kibr literally means ‘making yourself big’. Let’s come down to earth. No one who has the weight of a seed of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise. [Sahih Muslim 91]
8

Anger

Expressing anger never brings good, except in the battlefield. Hold it in until it subsides, if you can’t then walk away and avoid the situation, but don’t let it out on someone, you’ll regret it later. So whatever thing you have been given – it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive… [42:36-37]
9

Miserliness

It’s not just about spending on the poor. Spend on your family first, then neighbours and relatives. O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you before there comes a Day in which there is no exchange and no friendship and no intercession. And the disbelievers – they are the wrongdoers. [2:254]
10

Love of duniya

Give away the things which you love the most. That’s the ultimate test to prove whether you love this world more or the next. Whoever desires the life of this world and its adornments – We fully repay them for their deeds therein, and they therein will not be deprived. Those are the ones for whom there is not in the Hereafter but the Fire. And lost is what they did therein, and worthless is what they used to do.
